Alexandra Schaffer, born in Vienna in 1971, has been living and working in Rome since 2001. At the heart of her artistic practice are the human being, light, and the question of what lies beyond the visible. Her reduced visual language creates a space between visibility and perception. Her work has been exhibited extensively in Italy and featured in international art publications.

Artistic Statement

My painting is born from Meraviglia.

Through my art, I want not only to evoke emotion and Meraviglia , but also to share something of what I experience myself while painting: a moment in which the noise of everyday life falls silent, leaving only stillness, presence and perception.

I want a person looking at one of my paintings to pause for a moment. To truly look – with attention – and perhaps begin to ask questions.

Through reduction, light and white space, a dialogue emerges between what is visible and what lies beyond the visible.

I do not paint answers.
I paint questions.

I want to leave the viewer free to see, to feel, to imagine, and to complete the work through their own sensitivity. In doing so, they become part of the painting.

The painting does not end with me.
It continues within the person who looks at it.

I want to create an encounter – between my painting and the person standing before it. A silent dialogue between the one who paints and the one who looks.
